I find Winter such a wonderful time to write. There is nothing like sitting inside beside the fire (the flue that comes up through the floor of my office) and listening to the rain while punching away on the keyboard.
Sydney Writers Festival
I think I have post Sydney Writers Festival blues. Probably because I spent too much money on books at the festivals and came with no money to pay my rent. Whoops!
Richard Flanagan and Helen Garner were standouts for me. I also now have far too much reading. The pile of books is looming large on the edge of my desk.
Emerging Writers’ Conference
I was very lucky to be invited to speak as part of the National Writers Conference 2015. The panel discussion was on Blogging, an enormous and exciting topic to be talking about. It was an exciting and grounding experience, meeting so many talented and amazing writers over the weekend. The experience of speaking in front of so many people was very nerve-wracking, but I am so glad I went. It was an amazing challenge.
What am I working on?
At the moment, I am working on a little sci-fi series, set in Australia in the very near future. I am attempting to prepare a manuscript to submit for a number of prizes for unpublished writers. The idea that people will soon read my work (or at least my cover letter) is thrilling and scary. We’ll see how that goes then..
What am I reading?
TRUE HISTORY OF THE KELLY GAND, by Peter Carey
WE ARE ALL COMPLETELY BESIDE OURSELVES, by Karen Joy Fowler Review.
MOTHERS & OTHERS, a collection of Australian Writers on motherhood and Motherhood-lessness (?).
